Can the rush of modern-day living destroy us? When was the last time you sat in the sun, shut your eyes, and reflected on the day or where your life is? If you did, were you excited about what you were thinking about?
I will take a wild guess and suggest that most of us have days or weeks when we experience enormous living pressure or simply a time when things have gone wrong. Yet, amid chaos, people are working on themselves, not from a typical educational perspective, but from personal and emotional growth.
I have listed four thoughts I encountered in the past hundred years. Each represents a different version of the same thought. Reflect on each of them for a few seconds, then let's talk about them.
Thoughts to ponder:
Have you ever wondered about something? The sheer act of doing so will warm your heart and expand your thinking! If you haven't, you need to sit with a young person.
As a child, I would lay in the sun on a hillside and dream; I still seek out warm spots in the sun; these are some of my most fun memories and part of the reason I love beaches in Mexico.
Be curious; if you are, you can make things happen that most people think of as miracles; you can accomplish anything; look at little kids!
Answers almost always lie in the folds of your brain. When you relax, the answer unfolds like an envelope; stuff pops out!
Each of these thoughts causes me to remember simpler times. As a young boy, it was my job to ensure the milk cows were ready for milking by five o'clock at the barn. By the time I was six or seven, Dad trusted me to venture out into the world of his cattle pastures, find the cows and herd them home. Unfortunately, I would get lost in the process on too many occasions. Not geographically lost, just lost in the wonderment of the woods, the cow trails through them, and what in the devil caused cows sometimes to go west or south.
At one point in my life, I was experiencing some very complex personal issues; I discovered that certain kinds of piano music would resolve the inner conflict, allowing me to think clearly. Later on, I realized that listening to music from when I was a teenager gave me exceptional mental clarity.
In April 2020, my son found himself with nothing to do. The pandemic had nearly closed his business, laying him off temporarily. Thinking this was a great time to make some personal improvements, he got involved with the Tony Robbins personal development program. He found ways to participate at a meager cost to him, watching the first-ever online training by Mr. Robbins. This activity has changed his life forever.
I have a 31 second video that is fun to watch as roughly 10,000 people are attending a T. Robbins event, having fun as they are changing their lives. This video warms my soul as I watch it .. and I have watched it dozens of times. Add a comment with your email and I will gladly send it to you :-)
Things to think about (just in case you need some ideas):
How can seagulls fly without flapping their wings?
How does your pet dog know the school bus is coming 5-10 minutes before it comes, sitting in wait?
What causes a deer to allow a raccoon to lay on top of it?
Can goats talk?
Are people becoming closer to the animal kingdom?
A pet chicken runs to the end of the driveway, waiting for the little girl to get off the bus; how can that happen?
I could go on and on with examples of things to think about. And just in case you wonder, I drive many of my friends crazy, as I have hundreds of these kind of “things to think about.
All of these thoughts are about changing your emotional home. However, they are temporary, short-term diversions that will cause your brain to relax for a moment, allowing new and possibly different thoughts to creep in.
The key is to do something; to lead a fulfilling life, we must grow!
